Stars: Gippy Grewal, Sonam Bajwa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu DhillonĪ roller coaster of a comic ride, Carry on Jatta 2 was widely loved by Punjabi audiences on its release.
The movie is a widely loved and acclaimed one among Punjabi movies of all time. While Jass continuously gets caught up in awkward situations, he needs to constantly lie to make Mahie believe him. What happens next is a roller coaster ride of humorous situations and goof-ups. All of his lies and efforts are with a good intention though, that is, to be able to win Mahie’s heart. Jass now has to put up a facade, project himself as someone without any family and near ones. But she has already made up her mind on marrying only an orphan. Jass finds himself head over heels in love with Mahie.
Although a predictable storyline, the movie leaves you in splits with the narrator’s Hindi and Punjabi mixed dialogues. Gurnam Bhullar, Kamal Khan, Arvee and Talbi have sung three songs in the film which take the story forward. The movie also puts across a point about worrying fathers who put restrictions for daughters not because they have trust issues but because they feel the world is a bad place for girls. Karamjit is convincing as the father of three young daughters.
Our narrator, a dhobi, who sits outside Sharma Niwas, says, “Jisne bahar nikalna hai na, usne matke se bhi nikal jana hai’ fits well for the three daughters of Sunil Sharma (Karamjit Anmol), Kriti (Ekta Gulati Khera), Dimple (Piyu Sharma) and Sandy (Love Gill), who find their way out despite all the hurdles put by their family.įrom one narrator to another, this time the dhobi’s son, played by Anmol Sidhu, who also happens to be the writer of the film, the story picks pace from the moment he puts a mask alongside his father’s portrait saying, ‘had he used it, he would have been alive’. Keeping it relevant to the Covid times, only it has two social advisories, wear mask and the other one that contradicts the film’s title-equal treatment for girl child.
A dry spell of more than a year in Punjabi cinema, last being Chal Mera Putt 2 which released a week before the lockdown on March 13, 2020, the first movie this year, Kuriyan Jawan Bapu Pareshaan, ticks all the boxes-drama, comedy, and a social message.
